Aya's Story

9-year-old Aya can hardly walk. Her body is covered with scars from a bomb blast that hit her house. Everyone was killed except her father. They are now in a camp in Turkey. She said: “I was happy in Syria with my mother and brothers. I only have my dad now. It is very hard here and I’m very sad. I want to go home. I wish I had my mommy again.”

Aya saw horrible things in Syria. Things she’ll never forget. It was a terrifying day when the bomb hit her house. She was screaming from pain as her father ran, carrying her.

Aya tries to push away the bad memories, but it’s hard. “I am sad because my mom’s not here anymore. But when I think about Christmas with my mommy I am not sad. I loved the sound of church bells at home in Syria,” she says as her eyes light up.

Around the world in places like Syria, Iraq, Ukraine, Bulgaria, and Romania we have the opportunity
to bring the joy of Christmas to brokenhearted children. As we bring these children gifts of joy, we include a Children’s Bible and share the Love of Jesus with them. We have the opportunity to bring #Christ and hope into their aching hearts.
Will you join us in lifting the heart of a child today?
Will you bring joy and love to a hurting child?

Please consider partnering with DOHI in order to provide something special for children like Aya this Christmas.
